ROAD TRIP!!! 10.3.11

Now we’re talking! After spending the past 6 months landlocked in Ketchikan, it’s time to get the heck outta Alaska and head South.

We jumped on the Ferry from Ketchikan Alaska over to Prince Rupert and then will begin about a 12,000 mile roadtrip from Alaska to Florida, and back again. We have a 1983 VW Westfalia - Scoobey - which is perfect for the two of us. It has a stove & refrigerator and a popup top and we can sleep both on the bottom and on top.



He’s the general route:

Starting in Ketchikan, Alaska
- Ferry to Prince Rupert, Canada
- Travel through B.C. Canada down through Prince George, Whistler, Vancouver, etc. We will visit Joe & Deb from S/V Pacific Jade in Salt Spring Island, ferry to Vancouver Island, then to Washington
- Travel through Washington, stopping to visit friends on Whidbey Island and Captain Don & Michael’s Grandma near Spokane in Eastern Washington.
- Travel through the tip of Idaho, stopping in Coeur d Alene to visit some cruising friends.
- Through Montana with stops in Yellowstone National Park
- Over to South Dakota to go through the badlands, Mount Rushmore, etc.
- Then a little backtracking through Colorado to visit dear friends
- On to Kansas to visit family & friends
- Through Missouri where I would like to ride the Duck Tour in Branson…maybe
- Out to Kentucky to visit family
- Over to Washington D.C., where we hope to be for Veteran’s Day.
- Then down to Virginia to visit family
- Further down the coast, stopping in South Carolina
- And down to Florida where we will spend a month traveling from spot to spot – do Disneyworld with my folks who are coming to stay with us, a week in Miami with some dear friends from Mexico, and two weeks down in the Florida Keys. Mmmmm….warm!
- Then we will travel the southern route over to Texas, check on our property in Corpus Christi and check out our storage stuff (hopefully it all melted so I don’t have to deal with any of it!) hahaha…
- This should be right about Christmastime and Michael is jonesing to go somewhere cold, snowy, & very Christmas-y. So we’re looking for places to go – any suggestions? He is leaning towards NYC…. We’re thinking flying from wherever we are for a week or so.
- Travel through Arizona and visit friends there.
- And a stop California – we’ll spend some time with Michael’s family in Palm Springs and with dear friends in Ventura area. We have lots of things to do here – doctoring, taxes, etc.
- Then we will begin the trek back North to Alaska….we should get there in late January/early February, if everything goes right!
